It's frustrating to try to watch a video only to be greeted with choppy playback that makes it difficult or impossible. While poor video performance can indicate a number of issues, the problem specifically within Google Chrome is often caused by one of the browser's Adobe Flash plugins.
Basic Issues
Play the video in another browser first to see if it plays smoothly. If so, chances are the problem is with Chrome or one of its plugins instead of some larger computer issue like poor Internet connection, faulty graphics card driver or not enough memory for smooth performance.
Pepper Flash
A specific Adobe Shockwave plugin can cause choppy and unresponsive playback during flash videos. To remedy this problem, type 'chrome:plugins' into Chrome's address bar and press 'Enter.' Locate the Adobe Flash Player section and look at the Location field, which lists a drive path on your computer. Find the entry with 'PepperFlash' in the location and click 'Disable.' Restart Chrome and see if video playback is any smoother. If not, a clean reinstallation of Adobe Shockwave may solve the problem.
